I’ve been giving what I hope are helpful gardening tips to you, but I haven’t had much to say with what I’ve been up to with my spring garden plants. I’d love to give you all an update about the triumphs and failures in my little urban garden, as well as a nice little surprise to those who read to the very end. Here is an update on my garden and giveaway.

Spring Garden Plants
I love this time of year in that there is so much blooming and the days are longer and mild. It’s the perfect time of year to garden!
After patiently waiting over a year, the amaryllis I got from my best friend’s in-laws has bloomed for me again. I love their colors and size. Each flower is bigger than my hands!
These will stay in bloom for another few weeks before dying. I’m still waiting for two more flowers to open up on either side to enjoy from my office.

The rest of my garden is filled with succulents, tropical plants, roses, and other odds and ends that I enjoy growing. Succulents are great since they don’t need much room to grow and can be left alone with little watering.

I was only able to get two roses to bloom from my mini rose plant last year. I cut the plant down to sticks a few months ago, and now it looks like a new plant, with vibrant green leaves and large pink flowers! I’m still waiting for other plants to start blooming too.
I’ve got some seedlings growing, although I hope the others I’ve sown start growing soon as well. We’ll see! I see a sunflower and cosmos seedling so far, so that is good.
I ended up moving out pygmy palm tree from the front porch to the balcony. It took so much room near the door, so now its sitting nicely in a corner of the balcony.
I have two hibiscus plants and two plumeria, so I moved each of these to the front porch. Now there is more room to walk around!

I like that this edition has a big focus on perennial vegetable gardening, which is something I have been moving towards.

That is great! I’m hoping to add veggies to our garden soon. I’m about to add herbs. I just need to figure out which ones I want to get. Thanks for stopping by!

I love this colourful post! In our region it’s still pretty cold and I definitely can’t have any tropical flowers outside but it’s nice to see those beautiful images. Also, I’m excited about the giveaway because the Almanac has those nice publications but I generally don’t pick one up because I’m trying to keep my grocery tab as low as possible. I would love to win a copy 🙂

Thank you! I hope it warms up there soon! Thanks for stopping by and good luck!

Ann says

This is really great- we just moved into this house last year and there seem to be quite a few edibles out back that I’ve been checking out. I’ve also started an avocado tree this year and I’m trying my hand at carrots. No luck yet with getting my lemons to germinate but I’ll keep trying. I don’t exactly have a green thumb but I love plants and gardening nevertheless, so I have my fingers crossed to be a winner– I need all the help I can get!

Sounds like you have exciting plans for your garden! I want to grow trees and veggies once we have the space. I’m still finding out what I can and can’t grow :D. Trial and error is part of the fun though. Good luck and thanks for stopping by!
