This post will be a little different than the ones I have been publishing lately, but its always a good thing to shake things up a bit every now and then, right? I recently learned to make body spray and wanted to share with you all how you can too! Today I want to tell you how to make body spray.
I’m sure you’re wondering: what does body spray have to do with gardening or home decor? If you grow herbs, like lavender, then everything! Many body spray scents come from herbs and various plants.
The inspiration to make body spray came from my sister. She gifted me a set of essential oils for Christmas this year. I’ve used lavender oil before, but wanted to do something different with this new set of oils I received.
I highly recommend using a glass bottle to keep the contents nice and fresh for as long as possible. Recently, I bought my cute set of 6 gift sized glass bottles in various colors through Amazon.
I have several oils to mix and match so I wanted enough bottles to experiment with. I’m very happy with the product so far!
You can also use filtered water. I did! The purer the water, the better. If you have no distilled or filtered water on hand, use tap water.
Just be aware that tap water can change the mixture due to the minerals in tap water.
I used witch hazel. Its inexpensive and can be used for other things, such as an antiseptic. Vodka or witch hazel is added as a preservative. It will also prevent the oils from going to the bottom of the bottle.
The set I have includes lavender, a sleepy mix of several oils, peppermint oil, and eucalyptus oil. Here is another set with various oils to mix together.
Below are some popular essential oils to use in a body spray mix. These oils are:
- lemon essential oil
- lavender essential oil (my favorite!)
- wild orange essential oil
- pure vanilla extract
- eucalyptus essential oil
- peppermint essential oil
- rose essential oil
- jasmine essential oil
Body Spray Supplies
With some supplies, planning and preparation, I was able to make a few bottles of my own body spray! Below are the supplies you will need to make your bottle of body spray:
One thing I love about making my own body spray from home is that there are few items needed and it is really easy to make! Below are more details about each supply and why you need them.
How to Make Body Spray
Once you have all your body spray supplies, its time to mix them together. Fill half to three-quarters of the bottle with distilled water, another quarter of witch hazel or vodka, then several drops of essential oils. Mix up the ingredients.
You are now ready to enjoy your home made body spray!
Note: These cute little bottles only hold 1/3 fl oz of liquid, so measure accordingly if you are using a larger bottle.
Body Spray Blends
Below are some body spray blends to try out. Make sure to mix the drops with distilled water and witch hazel in a glass bottle for long lasting use and enjoyment.
- 3 drops vanilla, 3 drops lavender, 3 orange
- 3 drops peppermint, 3 drops eucalyptus, 3 drops lemon
- 8 drops vanilla, 2 drops orange
- 3 drops lemon, 3 drops lavender, 3 drops sandalwood
- 2 drops ylang yling, 5 drops vanilla
You can also experiment by adding or taking away drops to find your favorite scent! For larger bottles add more drops.
Body Spray Uses
Body spray does not have to be used only on the body. These can definitely be used in place of a perfume and work great. You can also use these as gifts, spray on pillows and other specific objects to make them smell nice, and in various parts of the house.
Cats and Essential Oils
Did you know that some essential oils are poisonous to cats? I have seen various lists with different essential oils on them not use around cats. This seems debatable, but some oils on these lists include lavender, peppermint, and eucalyptus oil.
If you, your pet, or anyone around you displays signs of getting ill due to oils, stop using them. Let me know if you know of other oils that are dangerous to pets.
Have you made homemade body spray before? How did it turn out for you? Know of any great blends to use?
