With several more weeks of stay at home orders (based on where you live), you might be itching to buy more plants to add to your garden. There are plenty of stores that offer roadside and online buying options, as well as online only garden stores. Here are the 7 best places to buy plants online.
Keep in mind that based on where you live, an online store may or may not have a particular plant you want to buy. I was looking for seeds online last night, and many places were out of seeds or had backorders on seeds. The same goes for buying plants online.
Shopping During the Coronavirus
Some of the places mentioned below do curbside pickup, as well as limited shopping in stores. Although this is mentioned, I want to make it clear that I am not encouraging anybody to shop for plants in stores right now. I know this is a controversial topic, but I do want to present all options available right now.
Every state is handling this differently, and I know there are variety of opinions on this, even here in California.
Below are the 7 best places to buy plants online.
Amazon
I had to start with Amazon since, well, its Amazon. You can buy just about anything on Amazon. To get the most out of your plant buying experience on Amazon, aim for items with a high star rating and plenty of positive feedback.
Do plenty of research to see what are popular plants to buy on Amazon, as well as talking to family and friends to see what plants they have bought on Amazon as well.
Home Depot
Home Depot is one of the few in store centers that have a great selection of items in their online catalog. They have plenty of seeds, pots, plants, garden decor and more in their online store. Make sure to check to see if certain items are available at your home store, since not every store supplies the same items.
You also have the option of getting your plants shipped to you, or you can pick them up at your local Home Depot. I know our local store still allows people to shop inside, but they only allow a certain number of people indoors, so be ready to wait in a line if you choose this option.
PlantingTree
I can’t say enough about this online plant store. I have had several plants ordered from PlantingTree and have been very happy with the their plants. PlantingTree is based in North Carolina. They package their live plants securely so that they arrive to you ready to plant. PlantingTree takes care of their plants and will take extra care of yours.
My most recent order from PlantingTree was a Drift rose bush. The plant just started blooming roses, which smell great and are beautiful to look at! You can find a range of indoor and outdoor plants at PlantingTree.
Etsy
You can buy anything on Etsy, including plants. Although Etsy is known as being an arts and crafts store, many creators also have plants and plant only stores on Etsy.
If you have never been on Etsy before, I highly suggest you go and search for plants and even other items on there. There are so many creative people on this site!
Just like with Amazon, make sure to buy from a seller with a good reputation. Take time to read comments on past buyers. Do your research so that you are completely satisfied when your plant or plants arrive.
Armstrong Garden Centers
Armstrong Garden Centers is a California only plant center. Most of my readers are from the great state of California, so I had to mention this great garden center. Armstrong currently offers phone and curb side pickup.
They always have a great selection of plants. I’ve bought flowering plants and succulents, which they always have a great variety of! Contact your local Armstrong, since not every store supplies the same plants.
Local Garden Centers
Last, but not least, buy from your local garden centers if you can. Small business are suffering with the effects of the coronavirus, so now is a great time to support your local garden businesses. Look online and ask local garden friends which ones are the best in your area.
You might even want to try out in store farmer’s markets in your area, if you have any. There is an in store farmer’s market nearby that always has great deals on plants.
Always check store hours online or call before ordering, since hours at many places are different right now.
