Happy Sunday! Here is my next collaborative post! I hope you find ideas on making your small garden look bigger below!
Gardens are fantastic. Anyone that’s ever lived in a flat or an apartment will know more than anyone how much you can miss having your own outdoor space.
Your garden is your own little bit of nature. A place where you can relax and unwind, enjoy some vitamin D, exercise, and dry your washing. Is there anything better than the fresh smell of sheets that have been left to dry outside?
But, when your garden is smaller than you’d like, it can be the opposite. A lack of space can lead to a messy area that makes you feel more stressed out. You may find yourself avoiding doing anything with your garden as it just doesn’t seem worth the effort of tidying up.
If you’ve got a small garden, instead of letting it go to waste, you should find ways to make the most of your space. Spending time outdoors can have huge physical and mental health benefits, so it’s definitely worth it.
But, if you dislike having such a small area, you can always find ways to make it appear larger. Here’s a look at some of the best.
Add a Shed
Adding a structure like a shed to your small garden may seem counterproductive. But, a small shed with a steel roof from Armstrong Steel buildings can give you a place to store any garden tools or outdoor toys, as well as cleaning products and chemicals safely. This can mean the rest of your garden looks neat and tidy and that you are more likely to spend time in it.
Use the View
If your garden is small, but you’ve got a fantastic view, steal it. Low fences or walls can allow you to see into your neighbor’s gardens, or take in the sights on the horizon. This can make your own garden feel larger, more spacious and more relaxing.
Use the Height
Even if you choose to have low fences, you’ll have the height of your home to work with. Hang gorgeous flowering baskets, paint murals or add some trellis so that you can grow climbing plants.
Growing plants and flowers is a fantastic way to make the most of your space, and the color and aroma can go a long way toward opening the area up and making your garden seem more substantial. In a smaller garden, you could install a little flower bed or alternately use hanging baskets and window boxes. Even a small herb garden can make your garden useful and atmospheric.
If you’ve got a smaller than average garden, it’s best to avoid overly dark colors. Stick to bright colors, in varying shades to add depth to the space. Remember, flowers and plants aren’t the only ways to add color to your garden. You can paint your fencing lighter shades, get a colorful back door, and add fun planters and pots.
Add a Bench
You may not have the space for large outdoor furniture in your small garden, but you can still add some seating. Placing a bench against the wall of your house, looking out on your garden gives you the perfect place to sit and relax at the end of a long day. Its position will also ensure you see the whole garden, and the view, in all of its glory.
Making Your Small Garden Look Bigger
These are just a few ways to make your small garden look bigger. Use your imagination and have fun with it!
