Are you looking for more ways to design your garden? There are many ways to go about this. Here are some great ideas to give you a beautiful garden by design.
If your garden doesn’t make you happy when you look at it, then you know you need to do something about it. A good garden should be able to make you comfortable too. The best gardens usually look good hence the need to make them feel good too.

Well, most people tend to like those gardens that allow you to walk through easily and are quite relaxing. Good gardens are usually well maintained thus providing a great ambiance to the environment.
The plants that are planted in these gardens are also well selected so that no plants will be taking many advantages over the others. For you to have a great garden, you must be having some great design skills.
Below are a few tips that you can use for designing your garden. You can also take a look at the OGD website to know more on this
1. Make Space
You remember when we said a good garden should be able to allow you to navigate through? Yes. You need to make sure that you give pathways that are just wide enough to allow people to move easily.
Make sure your pathways are not less than 5 feet wide. With a path this wide, even two people can be able to walk side by side comfortably without squeezing themselves.
Anyway, just have in mind that if you have taller plants flanking your walkways, you will also have to have a wider path. This is because spaces with tall boundaries always feel limited.

2. Watch the Steps
If you have been enthusiast about outdoor spaces, then you most definitely should know one or two things when it comes to outdoor steps. For instance, it is quite obvious that they should be placed in a gentle ascending manner.
It is usually recommended that a rise of about 6 inches is used when placing the steps as this range is always comfortable. You should also watch your landing as this is another important thing when it comes to the placements of steps.
You know how a generous landing is important especially when your steps are changing direction, right? Carefully placed steps also help during your movement around.
3. Elbow Room
You need to start thinking about decks and patios when you want to provide a great space for some outdoor entertainment. You need to have a plan on how you will provide enough room for dining among other things.
First, you will need to consider the number of guests you plan on having on a regular basis and then proceed with rest of the plan. This will help you to know the amount of space you need to accommodate everything, including the furniture. Also, remember to leave just enough space between the furniture for easy movement.

4. Steady Footing
If you are going for any kind of paving for your garden, make sure it will provide you with great footing during your movements. You should be keen not to choose any slick surfaces. You should also check and make sure that your pavers are not loosely set.
During the rainy season or even in winter climates, it will become difficult to walk on such surfaces. This is because they won’t be able to provide enough traction hence people falling all the time, something that’s quite dangerous.
For your walkways, you can use something like gravel which can easily provide you with a steady footing. Anyway, you should also make sure that your pavers are slightly inclined so as to prevent water from collecting on top of them after raining.
5. Lookout for your Head
Most of us would love to have the perfect garden and therefore they will do anything it takes when it comes to designing and decorations. This is why you will see other gardens having the archways, pergolas and arbors and others do not.
Anyway, for whatever style you go for, just make sure to leave enough headroom under them. Also, the posts that you are going to use to support the structure should be placed a few inches from the pathways running through them to leave enough elbow room.

6. Plan for the Plants
The whole idea of having a garden is so that you can put plants in there and just appreciate nature while watching them grow, right? When planning on how you want your garden to look like, you must also include some space for the growth of your plants.
Depending on how you want your garden, you need to be relocating some plants from the garden or simply remove them as they become mature. You can also use the filler plants which usually grow much faster but lives for a short period of time.
You can always find a wide variety of plants to put in your garden. Depending on what you need, always give them room to grow.
7. Keeping Distance
It is also recommended that you should put plants of about 36 or more inches tall, away from paths or walkways. You should put them about 4 feet back from things like the patio edges too.
This is just to make your garden look spacious and not too crowded. However, while you are doing this, you should also remember to put the thorny plants away from areas with frequent movements.
Well, if you just have to plant roses, maybe you want to put them on the arch or a walkway, go for the ones without thorns.

8. Look Out for the Future
If you know you are setting up a garden, you might as well just go ahead and lay down water pipes for irrigation or even your electrical wires.
This should be done along the paths and also near the edges of the bed. This will help you to avoid future regrets when you have to interfere with your nicely designed garden just because you want to do some wiring or installing water pipes.
