Do you want to garden but afraid of how much it will cost or are planning out your garden and not sure about future costs? Budget planning for your garden is a great place to start!
Gardening does not have to be expensive! All you need is some creativity and careful planning to have the garden of your dreams on a budget.
Garden Budget Planning
For starters, know what your budget is and try to stick to it. How much money do you have for gardening for the month? A monthly budget is a great place to start.
What type of flowers, vegetables, and/or other plants do you want to grow in your garden? Are you starting with seeds or plants? Seeds are much cheaper to start with, but those take time to grow, so keep this in mind, especially if you live in an area with drastic season and weather changes.
If you are using containers, do you need or want to add more containers to your garden? These can be cheap or expensive, based on materials and how they are made.
What type of soil will you be using? Whether you are gardening in the ground, container, or raised gardens, each require special types of soil to grow plants successfully. Make sure soil is in your budget.
What type of fertilizer will you be using? There are synthetic and organic fertilizers, and special fertilizers for vegetables, succulents, tropical plants, roses, and so on. Fertilizers will help your garden thrive, so add this to your garden budget as well.
If there are odd and end type expenses, you can add this as a miscellaneous section to your budget. I have included one on the Garden Budget Calculator below.
